1: Obama. Nice margin, decisive, blah blah blah.
2: Medical marijuana in Michigan / up to one ounce decriminalized in Massachusetts- both good steps.
3: Abortion bans defeated in a few states
4: Washington state allows physician-assisted suicide
5: Nice pickups for democrats in the senate - and while not technically "filibuster-proof", I think that some Senate Republicans will start voting Democrat in some ways after this last election, or at least doing their absolute best to not look like they're trying to force gridlock via procedural technicalities. A lot of them are up for re-election in 2 years, and I think they smell what's on the wind.
6: McCain's concession speech - where the hell was that guy recently?? I finally saw the McCain I liked in 2000 last night. Excellent speech, and it worked brilliantly with-
7: Obama's acceptance speech. He was sufficiently badass. One of the single best political moments I've ever been witness to.
8: Stem cell research approved in Michigan.
What Jeremy's unhappy with:
1: Gay marriage bans in Arizona and Florida passed, and prop 8 looks likely to pass as well. This is the first time I can remember that a right granted by the state might be taken away from a group.
2: Ted Stevens got re-elected??? WTF Alaska??? Seriously?
3: A ban in Arkansas on allowing unmarried couples to adopt or act as foster parents.
