So... a toddler was starved to death by his parents recently - because he didn't say 'amen'.

No, seriously.
There are, to the credit of the police, a lot of people getting charged with crimes including first-degree murder for this situation.  I'd comment further but... honestly, you get the point. 

I will say this though - things like this make me wish there was a hell.
